Japanese gardens have a long history, dating back to the 7th century. There are hundreds of Japanese style gardens outside of Japan, including in Alberta. The Nikka Yuko Japanese Garden, pictured above, is set in Lethbridge, Alberta. The garden’s architect, Dr. Tadashi Kubo, followed traditional Japanese principles when he designed the garden, while also considering the landscape, climate and culture of southern Alberta. The result is a unique and beautiful garden designed to promote harmony, peace, relaxation and tranquility.

Joanne enjoys visiting the garden in the summer, and finds it inspirational for writing poetry. Also, some of her books are for sale in the gift shop, along with many other fascinating items.
